2020 Chrysler Town and Country is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Chrysler. The Chrysler Group’s minivans include the Dodge Caravan, Dodge Grand Caravan, and the Plymouth Voyager / Plymouth Grand Voyager / Chrysler Voyager. The Chrysler Town & Country put a lot of equipment and luxury in an aging body that is suffering from the toughest crash tests.
2020 Chrysler Town & Country is the most flexible and luxurious minivan on the road today. However, these characteristics come in the form of an older vehicle with lower crash test results than that of safer competitors. The Town & Country has a lighter trim and a different grille, but they have an upright, glassy shape that translates into excellent visibility, if not the fashionable look of vans like the Kia Sedona and the Nissan Quest.
There isn’t much visual distinction between the Dodge and Chrysler vans from the side or from the rear, but at the front, the Town & Country makes its place for discerning buyers with a winged logo and a discreet grille. It’s still an upright vehicle with angular jaws, but the slightly softer look plays well. The Town & Country also has LED taillights to distinguish it from the Grand Caravan.
2020 Chrysler Town and Country Interior
Inside, the T & C is less of a family workhorse than the Grand Caravan, if only because it is neatly organized, and the somewhat plastic interior is covered with leather. The families who use this one-box dump truck will want to be in their teens – or, as Chrysler emphasizes, may as well be empty nests who like the four-adult minivan pack and weekend gear. The instruments on the Chrysler are ringed in chrome, as are the main controls, while the overwhelming plastic details of the minivans were completely cut out before 2011. It’s a tasteful look that’s interrupted by the analog clock that is supposed to mimic the shape of the grid.
2020 Chrysler Town and Country Engine
The Town & Country drivetrain is a V-6 with 283 hp, which like the Dodge is coupled with a 6-speed automatic and a front-wheel drive. The powertrain is good for taking an entire family from the mall to the mall, and the Steering reacts a little faster than with previous models. Driveability and handling are geared towards safety: it is gently tuned and the suspension is stronger than that of Odyssey and Sienna. The V-6 delivers good acceleration while fuel economy stays at 17 mpg city, 25 freeway, and 20 combined near the center of the segment.
2020 Chrysler Town and Country Safety
The basic configuration dates back to the mid-2000s, so it’s no surprise that Town & Country is below expectations in the latest crash tests. Both Chrysler minivans have been awarded four stars by the NHTSA. The IIHS does not look at them as friends and gives the terms and conditions a “bad” rating for 2020 Chrysler Town and Country protection against small overlaps.
